Why capacity is chosen by the lift plan, not the pipe diameter
Contractors often ask for a tonnage based on the line size. The load that actually governs is the lowering-in plan: the number of machines on the string, the spacing, the boom radius at the worst point, and the dynamic allowance the lift study applies. A 24-inch line lowered in with three machines at wide spacing can demand more per machine than a larger line with five.
