Why a paywelder instead of engine-driven sets on a pickup
On a short tie-in, a pickup and two engine-driven welding sets is the right answer and we will tell you so. On a mainline spread it is not: the welding crew spends the day moving machines, cables and consumables instead of welding, and the weld rate collapses. A paywelder carries the stations, the power, the crane and the consumables as one unit that tracks the string, which is why every serious cross-country spread uses one. The economics turn on joints per day, so if you are deciding between the two, work out your target weld rate first.
ArcoTrac 1100 and 1800
Vietz builds the ArcoTrac specifically for pipeline construction rather than adapting a general-purpose machine, and the 1100 and 1800 designations reflect different chassis and capacity classes. Which one suits your spread depends on the number of welding stations you need working simultaneously and the terrain on the right of way. Tell us your crew structure and we will match the unit.
Power, and what else it feeds
The generator capacity on a paywelder is sized for its welding stations, and it is worth confirming what else you intend to run from it — preheat, grinders, lighting for night working — before assuming there is headroom. Where there is not, we supply separate diesel generators and light towers from the same yard, so the answer is a second line on the same quote rather than a second supplier.
